Albany Records Release Double CD of “The Music of Laura Kaminsky”

Albany Records is proud to announce the release of “The Music of Laura Kaminsky.” Repertoire includes “Vukovar Trio,” “Cadmium Yellow,” “Music for Artur,” “Duo for Cello and Piano,” “Transformations,” “Triftmusik” and “Wave Hill.” The music is performed by Ensemble Pi, Cassatt String Quartet, Colorado String Quartet, and Idith Meshulam, piano.

Laura Kaminsky has crafted a formidable body of original musical compositions that are deeply individual responses to the world around her. Social and political themes have been common in her work, as an abiding  respect for an connection to the natural world. Of this, she writes, “Working with with the artists on this first double CD has been an extraordinary journey. They all brought their artistic integrity and creativity to making definitive performances of some of my solo and chamber music spanning a twenty year period. Throughout the process, new discoveries were made as old works got a fresh look, and more recent ones were embraced anew. I am eager to share this music with a wider listening audience and am delighted that Albany Records is releasing the project.”

“Kaminsky’s music is full of fire as well as ice, written in an idiom that contrasts dissonance and violence with tonal beauty and meditative reflection. It is strong stuff.” – American Record Guide
